Designed a platform to manage heat-related illnesses during summer, ensuring safety on construction sites

A platform designed to support safe and efficient construction site management during summer heatwaves,
addressing both health risks and schedule delays.

Exploring construction industry vulnerabilities to extreme weather conditions

Exploring construction industry vulnerabilities to extreme weather conditions

Through desk research, I identified several critical issues in the construction industry related to extreme weather conditions. In particular, high temperatures and adverse weather patterns, significantly disrupt construction schedules and safety protocols.

I chose in-depth interviews to explore the underlying experiences and emotions behind stakeholders' challenges, which would have been difficult to capture through quantitative methods alone.

Need for Weather and Schedule Based Heatwave Management

Need for Weather and Schedule Based Heatwave Management

  1. There is a lack of systematic heatwave management at construction sites, highlighting the need for a heatwave-focused management platform.
  2. It is difficult to monitor workers' status in real time, suggesting the need for a QR system that allows workers to immediately report heat-related symptoms.
  3. A gap exists between planned goals and actual progress, indicating the need for heatwave management that considers both weather conditions and work schedules.

Before creating the IA, I first mapped out the necessary data and functions. Through this process, I was able to clearly identify what data was needed and what visual elements were required

Each main tab -Dashboard, Climate Data, Task Management, and Heat Illness Management-was further broken down into detailed functions at deeper levels.

The main features are the "Heatwave Level Guide" and "Temperature Status by Site."
These functionalities provide users with essential climate data to monitor heatwave levels and track temperature variations across different work sites, ensuring better-informed decision-making for task management and worker safety.

The main features are the "Site Action Report" and "Heat Illness Report." These features help users track and respond to heat-related health incidents on-site by providing detailed reports on site actions taken and specific heat illness cases, ensuring better safety and proactive management of heat risks.
